Vikings’ Adam Thielen injured after highlight-reel TD catch
Kirk Cousins and Adam Thielen connected on a 25-yard highlight-reel play in the first quarter to give the Minnesota Vikings their first touchdown of the game, tying the Detroit Lions 7-7 with 5:23 on the clock.
On second-and-7, the Vikings wide receiver motioned to the right side of the field presnap and took off down Minnesota’s sideline. Cousins faked a handoff to running back Alexander Mattison, rolled to his left and dropped a dime into Thielen’s arms in the back of the end zone for a 25-yard touchdown.
Thielen sustained a hamstring injury on the play when he dragged his right foot along the boundary of the end zone and made hard contact with the turf before sliding into the wall. He was slow to get up after Cousins ran to the wide receiver’s assistance while motioning for trainers to come on the field.
Thielen walked off with assistance, favoring his right leg, and was taken into the blue medical tent on the sideline. His return is questionable.
Cousins once again showed how good he is at nailing deep shots off play-action. According to Next Gen Stats, Cousins is 12-of-21 for 416 yards, six touchdowns and zero interceptions on passes that travel 20 or more air yards.
