Twins’ Royce Lewis homers, then hurts quad in opener

Lewis delivered the first hit of the day for Minnesota, a no-doubt home run to left field with two outs in the first inning.

Two innings later, Minnesota pulled ahead when Carlos Correa‘s double brought home Manuel Margot. The hit proved costly, though, when Lewis pulled up near third base with a right quad injury. Edouard Julien replaced him.

Lewis said he will meet with team doctors Friday to determine his next steps.

“I was just confused. Honestly it just felt like a little cramp,” he told reporters after the game. “And it just tightened up as you’re running.”

Lewis was the first overall pick in the 2017 draft but has battled multiple injuries since, with 2023 his first full seasons in the majors.
