Rockies keep manager Bud Black; hitting coach Dave Magadan out
The Rockies were 68-94 this season — equaling their most losses since 2015 — while averaging a franchise-low 4.31 runs per game. It is the fourth consecutive season that the Rockies have missed the playoffs.
Magadan, 60, was dismissed by the team. He joined the Rockies in 2018 after serving as the hitting coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox and San Diego Padres.
Colorado’s offense struggled with slugger Kris Bryant limited to 42 games due to back soreness and plantar fasciitis after signing a $182 million, seven-year contract in March. The team had a .254 average, which was the second-lowest in team history behind last season’s .249 mark. Their 149 homers also were the second-fewest over a full season in franchise history.
Cole, 56, was reassigned to a minor league staff position. He has been coaching with Colorado since the 2013 season and has been with the organization since 1995.
Returning along with Black in 2023 will be bullpen coach Reid Cornelius, first base coach Ron Gideon, assistant hitting coach Andy Gonzalez, assistant hitting coach P.J. Pilittere, bench coach Mike Redmond and pitching coach Darryl Scott.
