Pelicans’ Brandon Ingram out at least 2 weeks for knee issue

NEW ORLEANS — Pelicans high-scoring forward Brandon Ingram has a bone bruise in his left knee that is expected to sideline him at least two weeks, the team announced Friday.

Ingram hyperextended his knee during Thursday night’s loss in Orlando and was helped off the court.

He underwent an imaging overnight, after which team doctors determined the extent of the injury.

The prognosis for Ingram, who is averaging 20.9 points, leaves open the possibility that he could return before the end of the regular season. The Pelicans (42-27) are in the thick of the Western Conference playoff picture.

New Orleans entered Friday 1½ games behind the LA Clippers for fourth place in the West. The top six teams in each conference advance to the first round of the NBA playoffs, while seeds seven through 10 participate in a play-in to determine the final two spots.

The Pelicans say they expect updates on Ingram’s readiness after he is reevaluated in two weeks.

The Pelicans visit the Miami Heat on Friday night and have seven games until the scheduled date of Ingram’s reevaluation.
