Michigan lands George Campbell
Michigan was hoping for big results from its barbecue weekend and on Saturday the coaching staff got the biggest prospect they could have hoped for.
Michigan landed its third commitment for the 2015 class during the event from wide receiver George Campbell (Tarpon Springs, Fla./East Lake) the top athlete and No. 3-ranked prospect overall in the ESPN Junior 300.
“I love it,” Campbell said. “I feel like home and it’s one big family.”
Campbell confirmed the commitment via text, while his new teammates tweeted out pictures of the commitment happening.

His current teammate, and future teammate at Michigan, Mason Cole even got in on the tweeting action.

Campbell is the No. 1-ranked athlete for his class, and while he could flourish on defense, he likely will be used as a wide receiver at Michigan. He is the sixth wide receiver Michigan has landed since 2012 that is more than 6 feet 4. His combination of size and speed will give Michigan unbelievable options once he gets to campus.
He turned down offers from Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Tennessee among others. With that many offers, it’s only natural that schools are going to try to continue to recruit Campbell despite his commitment.
With Michigan’s no-visit policy for committed prospects, Campbell says that won’t be an issue with him.
“I’m committed to Michigan and that’s final,” he said.
This is only the first day of Michigan’s barbecue weekend, so the good news for Wolverines fans doesn’t have to end there. With this type of commitment, it can sometimes become a catalyst for excitement and create a domino effect for other commitments.
Michigan is hosting other 2015 prospects on Sunday, including defensive back Shaun Crawford (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Edward), who has Michigan at the top of his list.
Campbell could have an impact the way that 2014 commit Jabrill Peppers (Paramus, N.J./Paramus Catholic) did for his class. Peppers called himself the commissioner, while Campbell calls himself the Mayor of Ann Arbor.
If Campbell puts on his recruiting hat for Michigan it could have a big impact on Michigan’s future. Given the fact Campbell is from the state of Florida it also expands Michigan’s footprint with top players in the South.
The knock on coach Brady Hoke early on was that he couldn’t land top offensive skill players, but Hoke and his staff have put that notion to bed. Since 2012, Hoke now has landed 10 four-star offensive skill players, including Campbell.
