Dolphins put Isaiah Wynn on injured reserve with quad injury

Wynn injured the quad during the Dolphins’ first offensive series in Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and did not return. Speaking to local media Monday, coach Mike McDaniel said his recovery would be a matter of weeks.

“We are getting more information, but it does look like it will be weeks, as it wasn’t a bump or a bruise,” he said. “We’ll gather more for specificity, but it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing him for weeks.”

Fifth-year veteran Lester Cotton filled in for Wynn after the injury, playing 44 of the team’s 49 offensive snaps. Miami’s other available guards include Robert Jones and Liam Eichenberg — who has started at center in place of Connor Williams in the team’s past two games.

“I think Lester is a very accountable person and has come as far as really anybody that we’ve had on the roster since he joined the team last year,” McDaniel said. “I think it’s a tough spot to be in — to go out there and perform against a front like that. There’s some stuff that I know he can do better that he would do better if he had the whole practice week as the starter.

“So first and foremost, I believe in the player and lost zero confidence in him, but he’ll be the first one to say that there’s some stuff that he would expect to be better at. And Rob has been working his tail off to get in the position that he’s in right now to be able to actively play, so, like I said from the beginning, we are fortunate to have depth and I look forward to Lester getting a lot more reps at the position during the week.”

Needham hasn’t played since tearing an Achilles tendon on Oct. 16, 2022, but has started 27 games for the Dolphins in four professional seasons. His return could coincide with the return of cornerback Jalen Ramsey, whose 21-day practice window opened last week.

McDaniel said that Ramsey has not suffered any setbacks after surgery on his left meniscus in July and that the Dolphins would begin working the former All-Pro into team drills this week. He did not commit to Ramsey playing Sunday against the New England Patriots.
