Colts’ Anthony Richardson sits out after nasal procedure
WESTFIELD, Ind. — Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson underwent a minor surgery to correct his nasal septum on Sunday, leaving him sidelined for at least Monday’s practice, coach Shane Steichen said.
The team’s first-round pick — selected fourth overall from Florida — needed the procedure, Steichen said, “so he could breathe better.”
“We had to get it done [Sunday] with the day off, so we got it done and he should be back [Tuesday],” Steichen said. “And if he’s not, he’ll be back the next day. It’s nothing serious.”
Richardson watched practice from the field Monday morning while Gardner Minshew and Sam Ehlinger shared the quarterback snaps on the first day in pads.
Asked whether the surgery could have been done before the start of camp, Steichen said, “We didn’t want him to come in and, like, not start camp … So, let’s get to camp and do it on an off day.”
According to the Mayo Clinic website, such surgeries are common to correct a crooked septum — the cartilage dividing the space between the two nostrils. The condition can make it harder to breathe through the nose.
