Athletes who have hosted the ESPY Awards

This year, the 29th edition of the ESPYs will be full of stars — including the host, reigning NBA champion and Finals MVP Stephen Curry.

Curry joins a list of athletes who went above and beyond by delivering opening monologues, handing out trophies and more as hosts for one of the biggest award shows in sports.

With a four-time WNBA champion, two-time FIFA World Cup winner and Super Bowl champion coming together, the first trio to co-host the ESPYs had plenty of hardware.

The former professional race car driver found herself in the driver’s seat as the first woman to host the award show.

A year after he was given the Icon Award, the two-time Super Bowl champion made his way back to the ESPYs stage as a host.

Prior to handing out trophies as the 2016 ESPYS host, the WWE superstar described the show as “three hours of everything.”

“I admire what the show does, because it is a show where you can celebrate achievement, you can laugh, and at the same point you can be moved emotionally … and it gets you to think,” Cena said. “It’s one of the very rare programs that has all of that combined under one roof.”

As a 22-year-old star for the Cleveland Cavaliers, he co-hosted the event with late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.

The former cyclist became the first athlete to serve as host in the 14th annual ESPY Awards.
