Arizona Cardinals activate WR Marquise Brown from non-football injury list

Around the time the Cardinals announced that Brown was activated off the NFI list, he took part in a pre-practice walk-through. He left the field with a trainer as the team began stretching to kick off practice, but it wasn’t cause for concern.

“We’re just easing him back in,” coach Kliff Kingsbury said.

The first step in Browns’ return is participating in walk-throughs, Kingsbury said. He hopes Brown can take part in individual drills by the end of the week and be full go by Monday “if everything stays on course.”

Brown had to be activated off NFI in order to start participating in walk-throughs, Kingsbury said. A ramp-up isn’t mandated by the league.

“That’s our timetable,” Kingsbury said. “We want him to get the walk-throughs, get those mental reps so he feels comfortable when he’s out there.”

Brown, acquired by the Cardinals in a draft-night trade with the Baltimore Ravens, went on the list last Tuesday, July 25, with a hamstring issue, a day before their first training camp practice.

Brown tweaked his hamstring two weeks ago while running routes, Kingsbury said this past Wednesday.

During his opening news conference of training camp July 25, Kingsbury said he expects Brown to be a “really big part” of the Cardinals’ offense after liking what he saw out of him during offseason practices.

In other moves Tuesday, the Cardinals signed offensive lineman Rashaad Coward and released wide receiver Christian Blake.
