Teammates, past Heisman winners congratulate DeVonta Smith on 2020 win

The quartet of finalists for the 2020 Heisman Trophy all enjoyed remarkable college football seasons in light of the unique challenges of this past year, but in the end, only one player from among Alabama’s DeVonta Smith and Mac Jones, Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Florida’s Kyle Trask could bring home the hardware.

In winning, Smith had wowed fans, voters, teammates and opponents with his 105 receptions, 1,641 yards and 20 touchdowns during the Crimson Tide’s season. He was also the first wide receiver to win the award since Desmond Howard won the Heisman while playing for Michigan in 1991.

The recognition for Smith’s incomparable gridiron excellence inspired instant joy among fans both on campus at Alabama and back in his hometown of Amite, Louisiana.

This was also the eighth time in Heisman history that two teammates were finalists, so Smith was congratulated in person by his quarterback.

Celebrating as well were his teammates, active now and those who have already moved on to the NFL, including Jaylen Waddle, Henry Ruggs III, Jerry Jeudy and Jalen Hurts:

And enthusiasm for Harris’s victory included some noteworthy past Heisman winners, starting with Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (2016) and Bo Jackson (1985).
