Pittsburgh Steelers set NFL record with sack in 70th consecutive game
With an 8-yard sack of Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen on Sunday night, defensive lineman Tyson Alualu helped the Pittsburgh Steelers set an NFL record with a sack in 70 consecutive games.
Robert Spillane tied the mark, set by Tampa Bay from 1999 to 2003, with a sack of Washington’s Alex Smith last Monday night.
Since Harrison’s 12-yard drop of Flacco, the Steelers have recorded 237 sacks. Of the 29 Steelers players who recorded a sack during the streak’s duration, T.J. Watt has the most with 46.5, followed by Bud Dupree (35.5), Cam Heyward (32) and Stephon Tuitt (24).
“They provide a wave that we ride,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said of his top-notch pass-rushers. “They are good individually, they are good collectively and they are consistent in terms of their performances.
“I’ve been a part of several groups like that. I was fortunate enough to be a part of that Tampa group that this group often gets compared to, and that is something that they both have in common. They have great individual rushers who show up week in and week out. I’m fortunate to have that perspective.”
